What can the National Governing Bodies and other not-for-profit sports sanctioning organizations do to strengthen their financial positions? In this group session, led by SportsTravel’s “Event Doctor,” best practices in the areas of sponsorship sales, membership recruitment and retention, and sources of ancillary income will be discussed.

The likes and dislikes of young people today are central to the success of the sports organizations that rely on youth as both participants and spectators. What does it take to remain competitive when youngsters have so many entertainment, media and recreation options? How can mainstream sports combat declining participation? "So You're New to Sports Sales..."

Successfully selling to sports event rights holders sometimes requires some very specialized knowledge. In this session for convention bureau, sports commission and hotel sales people who are new to the industry, even the most basic questions regarding the sports-related travel market will be welcome as topics of discussion.

"Repositioning a Destination as Sports Friendly"

Establishing a destination that’s seen as hospitable to sporting events can involve the need to develop a sports infrastructure that includes venues appropriate for hosting sporting events. Oftentimes, a combination of public and private financing is required. In this session, a case study will be presented as the basis of a discussion on how your destination can be repositioned to attract more sports-related travel.

"Cost-Effective Event Security & Risk Management"

Improved event security in the post-9/11 era is a real and expensive concern for event organizers and event hosts alike. In this session, sensible, cost-effective security measures will be discussed. Participants are invited to share information on what they’re doing differently to enhance the security at their events and minimize their legal liability given the litigious era in which we live.

"Confronting Room Block Issues & Tracking Room Nights"

In this open and frank discussion, issues relating to hotel room blocks, attrition provisions and the accurate tracking of room night production will be discussed. Strategies for building a high level of cooperation and trust between industry stakeholders will also be suggested.
