Sign up now to tee it up with your fellow TEAMS ‘10 attendees for an afternoon that you’ll not soon forget on Monday, October 18th. The Sixth Annual TEAMS Golf Tournament will be played at the TPC Piper Glen championship golf course in Charlotte. Buses to the golf course will depart the Westin Charlotte at 11:30 a.m. with a tee-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer, TPC Piper Glen features a stunning layout that brings out the best of the rolling North Carolina terrain—with natural rock outcroppings, lush oak trees and quiet lake inlets. TPC Piper Glen has become legendary for hosting tournaments such as the PGA Senior Tour Home Depot Invitational. With its beautifully designed par 72, 6,853-yard course, TPC Piper Glen is the perfect setting for the TEAMS ’10 Tournament, which will be played in a four-person scramble format.

Join Dave Serino of Gammet Interactive for this all-encompassing overview of the statistics, usage and trends in social media and how they apply to destinations and sporting events. This presentation will include the five keys to developing a social-media plan:

  1. Listening: How to use search options and engines to hear what people are saying about you
  2. Preparing: Getting the right staff members or selecting the right contractors to do the job
  3. Planning: Deciding on your goals/objectives and then laying out a tentative plan to begin online interaction and engagement
  4. Engaging: Becoming active in building your brand online and effectively managing your content
  5. Measurement: How to benchmark and measure your social-media success

Learn how to create a dynamic and powerful development plan to raise money and awareness for the charitable causes supported by sports-related organizations in this half-day boot camp session. Participants in the Fundraising Boot Camp will learn how to:

  • Create unique cause-marketing programs
  • Develop your USP (Unique Service Proposition) to guarantee fundraising success
  • Create the compelling ask
  • Demonstrate your value to all of your donors and prospects
  • Take a potential giver from "suspect" to "prospect" to "donor"
  • Understand how your philanthropy can support your business strategy
  • Understand the value of your charitable work to your overall brand strategy
  • Develop a step-by-step fundraising plan in one easy session

Kurt Aschermann, president of Charity Partners Foundation, which helps several national charities with their fundraising efforts, will facilitate the session. Aschermann is the former chief marketing and development officer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. While with the Boys & Girls Clubs, Aschermann created and implemented a fundraising strategy that resulted in corporate partnerships with, among others, Coca-Cola, JCPenney and Circuit City. In 2006, he helped actor Denzel Washington prepare his book, "A Hand to Guide Me," which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Boys & Girls Clubs.

TEAMS '10 attendees will be admitted to the Fundraising Boot Camp as part of their TEAMS registration. For those interested only in the Fundraising Boot Camp, the $250 registration fee also will allow participants complimentary admission to all TEAMS '10 Conference activities on Tuesday, October 19.

In one of his first appearances since becoming the fifth president of the NCAA, Mark Emmert will share his vision for the leading collegiate sports sanctioning organization. Formerly the president of the University of Washington, Emmert has taken the reins of the NCAA in the midst of new conference alignments and ongoing calls for a football playoff. In this fascinating session, Emmert will discuss the organizational restructuring of the NCAA as well as his views on student-athlete academic standards. U.S. National Whitewater Center

Experience all the thrill and variety of the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) when you go behind the scenes of one of North Carolina's unique sporting venues during this exciting practicum. Located on the banks of the Catawba River, a short drive from downtown Charlotte, the USNWC is nestled in nearly 400 acres of historic woodlands and combines unlimited outdoor adventure with state-of-the-art conference and meeting facilities, large outdoor event and music venues, a retail store and a restaurant. The USNWC's centerpiece is a multi-channel, re-circulating whitewater river—the largest of its kind in the world. The river circulates more than 12 million gallons of water, producing a variety of conditions suitable for beginners and Olympic athletes alike. The river's channels are divided among three course with Class II to IV rapids that can be navigated via kayak or guided raft. TEAMS attendees will gain insights into how the site was selected for the facility, the special challenges involved in its construction, the ongion operational aspects of the facility and how sports venues such as the USNWC can be marketed to a variety of users.

Time Warner Cable Arena

Home of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats and the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, and the premier destinaton for top-rated concerts and events, the Time Warner Cable Arena features multiple seating options and unique locations for eating and socializing. Time Warner Cable Arena was built by the City of Charlotte and opened in October 2005. The arena is operated by Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and features a center-hung video display and scoreboard that is the most technologically advanced scoreboard and sound system in the country and features the largest video screen in use in any NBA facility. A unique, three-dimensional, backlit cityscape above the scorebaord features the Charlotte skyline and uses a 360-degree projection system that allows the skyline to change and feature graphics such as airplaines and fireworks and nighttime or daytime skies. Participants in this practicum will learn about the technical aspects of operating the arena's cutting-edge electronics and how the Time Warner Cable Arena has adopted several green initiatives to make this major sports and entertainment venue more environmentally friendly.

Michael Waltrip Racing Headquarters

Go behind the scenes to learn what it takes to get a NASCAR team to the track each week at the 11-acre headquarters complex of Michael Waltrip Racing. Michael Waltrip Racing fields three Sprint Cup and one Nationwide Series Toyota race teams. Participants in this practicum will view all aspects of race-car production, including the paint booth, machine shop, shock assembly, gears and transmission, pit practice are and fabrication departments. All TEAMS attendees will have the chance to see "Race to the Green Flag," a short film that encapsulates a week in the life of Michael Waltrip Racing as well as MWR's memorabilia collection, which includes Michael Waltrip's two Daytona 500 championship trophies.
