The NBA’s Sacramento Kings have released renderings of the $448 million arena they plan to open in downtown Sacramento in time for the 2016-2017 season.

The renderings, developed by the Kings and AECOM architectural design firm, reveal an exterior constructed largely of glass, precast concrete and recycled aluminum, fixed around a 50-foot by 150-foot grand entrance that peers directly into the arena and its large, hanging scoreboard. Also notable are the various balconies that jut off all sides of the façade, and provide unobstructed views of the surrounding downtown area.

“When we bought the Sacramento Kings, we committed to the NBA and to the people of Sacramento that we wouldn’t just build a new arena, but that we’d build a world-class entertainment venue, an arena truly for the 21st century,” said Kings owner Vivek Ranadive. “Today is another major step forward in that effort.”

The renderings come as the result of six months of feedback from more than 20,000 Sacramento residents. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2014.
