The 30th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships is in the books. And other than a tragic incident that temporarily closed Los Angeles International Airport, potentially threatening attendance, organizers said they were pleased with all aspects of the horse-racing spectacle staged at Santa Anita Park.

“Ancillary events, attendance, racing, weather—I think that everything went as well or better than could have been expected,” said Jim Gluckson, media relations executive for Breeders’ Cup Limited, which has operated the event since its start in 1984. “We had very good ticket sales and sold all of the permanent seats in the facility. There was a very good flow in the betting lines and the concession lines. Attendance was above our expectations.”
