The popularity of USA Sevens rugby in Las Vegas was proven again in January as organizers saw a 35 percent increase in TV viewership from 2013. “From that perspective we’re really encouraged,” said Dan Lyle, executive vice-president of event owner United World Sports.

Over the course of the three-day tournament this year, NBC, NBC Sports Network and Universal Sports aired more than 15 hours of competition from Sam Boyd Stadium. South Africa beat New Zealand to win the event.

“We’re beginning to see the fruits of our labor,” said Julian Dugas, director of sports marketing for the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. “We couldn’t be happier. Every year it gets better and better with more elements tacked on. Whether we move it a couple weeks here or there, the fans are going to come.”
