USA Curling will bring its Men’s and Women’s National Championships to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 2021, the first time the event will be staged in Iowa.

The championships will be held February 6–13, 2021, and are expected to attract 200 athletes, coaches and officials to the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The national governing body will partner on the event with the city of Cedar Rapids, the Cedar Rapids Tourism Office, VenuWorks and the Cedar Rapids Curling Club.

“Cedar Rapids did a superb job of hosting the USA Curling Arena Nationals in 2015, and the combined support and skills of the curling club, arena staff and tourism department should make the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Nationals another very successful event,” said Rick Patzke, USA Curling chief executive officer.

The weeklong national championships will include the top men’s and women’s teams and help determine the players that will qualify to compete for Team USA at the following World Championships.

“Cedar Rapids Curling is grateful to the city of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Tourism Office, VenuWorks/Cedar Rapids Ice Arena and club members Jeremy Parrish and Packy Moran for putting together this bid,” said Phil Burian, president of the Cedar Rapids Curling Club. “We are thrilled to be the first host of this event in Iowa. It will be a great way to help curling grow in the Eastern Iowa corridor as anticipation for the (2022) Beijing Olympics rises. We look forward to seeing the competitors, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans in 2021.”

The 2020 Nationals will be staged in February in Spokane, Washington.
