A 260,000-square-foot venue in Fargo, North Dakota, celebrated its groundbreaking this week with the 100-acre property expected to open in 2024.

The project is being funded through both private and public fundraising. It will feature a full-sized indoor soccer turf field, four basketball courts, office spaces and a 350-meter indoor walking track.

“Back in 2016, there was a feasibility study that showed that Fargo needed some indoor recreational facilities,” said Vicki Dawson, board president of the Fargo Park District, told local media. “This sports complex will help change that need and help us get to what we need for our community, our children, our adults, our seniors — for everyone.”

The Fargo Parks Sports Complex is projected to attract over 600,000 visitors annually. More than 13,000 local kids will use the facility in its first year of operation.

“The Fargo Parks Sports Complex is the biggest project the Fargo Park District has ever undertaken. Once completed the 260,000 square foot building will address a critical need for more indoor recreation space,” said Dave Leker, executive director of the Fargo Park District. “A vision like this is much bigger than the Fargo Park District and we are excited to get the project underway. Today was a big day for the Fargo Park District and our community.”
