The North Carolina Sports Association Board brings together sports and hospitality industry representatives for the development of sports tourism. Schmidt was elected chair at the June annual membership meeting and will serve a one-year term as President from July 2025 to June 2026.

“I am excited to take on the role of President of the NC Sports Association and work with our many outstanding sports tourism partners across the state,” Schmidt said. “The association will continue its work to make North Carolina and its member destinations the preferred tournament and event sites for rights holders across the county.”

Schmidt was also appointed to serve on the board of the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board in May to represent the tourism industry and advocate for the development of travel and engagement with local communities within North Carolina.

Schmidt will work to increase funding to market the state more aggressively within certain sports tourism target areas along with creating access to state grant tournaments and event funding to mid-size and smaller destinations. He also plans to work with legislative leaders to fund a study to look at the overall impact of amateur sports in North Carolina.
