Atlantic 10 Moving Women’s Basketball Tournament to Delaware
Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington will be host starting in 2022
Posted On: October 27, 2021 By :The Atlantic 10 Conference will move its women’s basketball tournament to Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware, beginning in March 2022, moving the event back to a neutral site for the first time in several years as part of a multi-year agreement.
The home of the NBA G League Delaware Blue Coats, Chase Fieldhouse is a 2,500-seat arena and sports complex that opened in January 2019. Located south of downtown Wilmington, the complex includes indoor and outdoor multi-purpose turf fields.
“Chase Fieldhouse provides the A-10 a tremendous opportunity to return our Women’s Basketball Championship to a neutral site after a challenging 2021 COVID year,” said Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. “It is a state-of-the-art arena perfectly located geographically for our women’s championship.”
The Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia, was the most recent neutral site from 2014–2018. Before that, the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts, played host in 2011, while Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, hosted in 2010.
For the past three seasons, the tournament has moved to various member school sites. It was in Richmond, Virginia, at VCU’s campus in 2021 and at the University of Dayton’s UD Arena in 2020 after going to the A.J. Palumbo Center at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 2019.
“We are honored and beyond excited that The Atlantic 10 Conference has chosen Wilmington and the Chase Fieldhouse as home for the 2022 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship,” said Rob Buccini, president of venue operator BPG | SPORTS. “Our entire community is anxious to welcome NCAA Division I Basketball to Wilmington.”
