Augusta Stone is the newest member of the SportsTravel editorial team, having started as associate editor on August 10.

Stone brings five years of professional reporting experience across the travel and sports industries. She joins SportsTravel from The Points Guy, a travel brand focused on maximizing points and miles from loyalty programs, where she worked from 2023–2026. During her time at TPG, Stone focused on credit card rewards and contributed to the brand’s daily newsletter, social media accounts and annual trends report.

Prior to that, Stone worked as an internal staff writer for the Carolina Panthers’ team website. From 2022–2023, she covered a national head coaching search, multiple high-profile player transactions and the team’s 2023 selection of quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick of the NFL Draft. She also wrote the Panthers’ postgame newsletter and co-hosted a weekly podcast, in addition to making multiple TV and radio appearances.

Stone started her career at The State newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served as the beat reporter for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks’ prominent women’s basketball team. She followed the Gamecocks throughout their 2021–2022 national championship season, highlighted by 2022 Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year Aliyah Boston and 2022 Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Dawn Staley.

Stone, a native of Chickamauga, Georgia, is a 2021 graduate of the University of Georgia where she majored in journalism and political science. She served as editor-in-chief of UGA’s independent student newspaper, The Red & Black, in 2020 and played trumpet in the Georgia Redcoat Marching Band.

“We are thrilled to be able to add a multi-talented journalist like Augusta to our team,” said SportsTravel Managing Editor Ted Keith. “Her background both in sports and business media makes her well-positioned to get off to a fast start with us, and we are looking forward to her contributions to all of our editorial offerings, as well as at our industry-leading events.”

“I am so excited join the SportsTravel and Northstar Meetings Group team,” Stone said. “I can’t wait to dive further into the sports-event industry and play a role in connecting people through written and multimedia content, as well as our annual events.”

Stone lives in Greenville, South Carolina, with her fiancé, who is a college football reporter. She enjoys rooting for her beloved Georgia Bulldogs and Carolina Panthers, cooking vegan recipes and traveling to visit family and friends who live across the United States and abroad. When she isn’t on the road or watching sports, Stone enjoys live music and comedy shows, and she hopes to (one day) make it on Pop Culture Jeopardy.

Growth of SportsTravel Staff

Stone’s hiring is the latest move for the evolving SportsTravel editorial staff.

Last November, Paul Stevens started as senior editor, making him the publication’s first UK-based staffer; Keith came aboard as managing editor in January,; and in April, Jason Gewirtz, who began with SportsTravel in 2008 and was part of the Northstar Meetings Group Sports Division since its formation in 2017, was promoted to senior vice president/content, meetings and sports.

In addition to publishing SportsTravel, Northstar organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific, as well as the EsportsTravel Summit.

“Augusta is the perfect fit and an incredible addition to our expanding SportsTravel editorial team,” said Gewirtz, who also serves as publisher of SportsTravel. “We’re excited for the industry to get to know her and for her to begin telling their stories. With Ted and Paul adding their considerable expertise, this is our largest and most experienced editorial team since we launched as the first industry publication in 1997. Bringing Augusta on board is yet another sign of our commitment to be the leading editorial voice in the most dynamic segment of the travel industry.”
