The International Skating Union has selected Boston to host the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships. The event will take place March 28–April 3, 2016, at TD Garden.

The 2016 World Championships will mark the 13th time the event will be held in the U.S. and the first time it will be held in Boston. The last time the event was held in the United States was in 2009, when Los Angeles hosted at Staples Center.

The Skating Club of Boston will work locally with U.S. Figure Skating to host the 2016 event.

“We are thrilled to welcome the best figure skaters in the world back to the United States,” U.S. Figure Skating President Patricia St. Peter said. “We have a great tradition of hosting high caliber international events. We are confident the city of Boston and The Skating Club of Boston will welcome our figure skating family with the same excitement they have afforded to other domestic and international events in recent years.”

Boston most recently hosted the 2013 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in April and is also set to welcome the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the final qualifying event prior to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, in January at TD Garden.
