Why Buffalo?

A historic city in Western New York known for its passionate sports culture, Buffalo offers a virtual kaleidoscope of top-notch stadiums, arenas, rinks and playing fields for teams and players from near and far, representing every athletic endeavor imaginable. The “City of Good Neighbors” means big-league hosting with a neighborly approach, but Buffalo also prides itself on a rich architectural heritage, a vibrant arts scene, exciting developments along its storied Lake Erie waterfront and a revitalized downtown that puts everything within easy reach. And with a major airport just minutes away featuring nonstop flights from 30-plus cities, getting here is as easy as playing here.

Only in Buffalo

Today’s Buffalo, the second largest city in New York State and gateway to Niagara Falls, offers a tournament backdrop comprised of restored century-old residences and landmark commercial structures, reimagined silos and a lakefront bustling with new restaurants, parks and more. Between games, athletes and fans can dig into the city’s famous wings, wander along a streetscape enlivened by beautiful murals and soak up a scene that is seriously playful. It’s that mix of character, community and competition that makes Buffalo unforgettable — blending grit and creativity in ways no other host city can.

The historic Grover Cleveland Golf Course is a 5,621-yard, par 69 layout that originally served as the Country Club of Buffalo (1901–1925). Designed by Walter Travis and revamped by Donald Ross in 1917–1918, the course is the only public golf facility in North America to have been designed by two of the most famous golf architects of the early 20th century. In 1925 the venue was renamed after the former Buffalo mayor and two-term United States president. Groups of all skill levels will enjoy the beautifully manicured greens and fairways bordered by fescue rough (long, unmowed grass that provides a challenging penalty for wayward shots), reminiscent of courses found in the British Islands.

Unique Sports, Dining & Entertainment Experiences

A short drive from Buffalo in Williamsville, New York, The Dome is a state-of-the-art indoor golf and entertainment center, where patrons can practice their golf swing even in the dead of winter. When it comes to Buffalo’s famous wings, the chefs at the Bar-Bill Tavern are acknowledged masters of the art, though the place has a full range of delicious tavern food. While waiting for the wings to be fried extra crispy (or the slow-roasted beef on weck to be hand-carved), patrons can enjoy a beer from an extensive list while perched along a massive marble bar with gleaming brass fixtures. (And unlike what you might think, the place is named for original owners Barb and Bill Korzelius.)

The likes of Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Britney Spears have enjoyed the fare at the Anchor Bar, the reputed original home of the Buffalo wing since one-time co-owner Teressa Bellissimo created the dish in 1964. Today, this friendly sports bar/restaurant is an ideal spot to have a bite, drink a brew and watch a game.

The convenience is staggering: The Official Pizza & Wing of the Buffalo Bills (NFL football), the Official Pizza & Wing of the Buffalo Sabres (NHL Hockey) and the Official Pizza of the Buffalo Bisons (Minor League Baseball) can all be found at one location: Buffalo’s La Nova Pizza. The place also is credited as the Premier Manufacturer of Chicken Wings in the United States, serving the perennial favorites in flavors like barbeque, oven-roasted, Italian-style and hot-n-spicy in a fun and lively setting.

When the Buffalo Bills begin the 2026 season at their new Highmark Stadium (see “Coming Soon” above), it will also mark the return for Bills followers of the uniquely Buffalo style of tailgate parties, a massive fan-driven scene in the parking lots and surrounding areas, which amounts to a strong culture of sports aficionados sharing space and hospitality. Visitors are often welcomed into private parties even if they are opposing fans (it helps if you bring something to share like drink, food or desserts).

A Downtown Buffalo mainstay since 1923, Chef’s Restaurant is the place for hearty Italian comfort food and desserts, served in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Capacity in the main dining room is 325 people, while the beautifully appointed LouAnn Banquet Room accommodates groups of up to 125.

This historic district hosts hundreds of events throughout the year, many of which are free or low cost to the public. The roster includes concerts and festivals, summer fitness classes, ice skating, bike and kayak rentals, boat tours, children’s programming, history tours and outdoor winter activities. There’s also plenty of food and drink, public art displays and even a boardwalk.

Buffalo’s Chippewa District is a colorful nightlife destination in the heart of downtown with a mix of bars, clubs and entertainment options. Key nightlife spots include the Bada Bing Sports Bar & Grille, with three large HD TV screens and able to host private banquets for 40+ people; Soho Buffalo, a popular burger bar and nightclub that can be rented out to groups; and the Rec Room, a venue featuring live music and entertainment, able to accommodate gatherings of up to 500.

For more than 150 years, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum has collected, conserved and exhibited the art of its time, often working directly with living artists. This tradition has given rise to one of the world’s truly great collections of modern and contemporary art. Here can be found gems in the genres of impressionism, post-impressionism, cubism, surrealism, constructivism and other movements from the revolutionary late 19th and early 20th centuries, as exemplified in works by the likes of Gauguin, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Braque, Kahlo, Matisse, O’Keeffe, Picasso and myriad others.

The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park is both a memorial and a museum on the shores of Lake Erie that features four vintage decommissioned World War II-era U.S. Navy vessels — the USS The Sullivans (a destroyer currently undergoing repairs), the USS Little Rock (a light cruiser), the USS Croaker (an early submarine) and the PTF 17 (a fast patrol boat). The on-site Museum Building is a restaurant and gift shop with a second-floor repository of artifacts from multiple branches of the military. The Outdoor Exhibit Yard contains actual vintage jets, helicopters, boats and more, while the adjacent Veterans Memorial gardens is home to several monuments to honor and remember veterans.

Let’s face it, Buffalo just can’t get enough of wings, hence the aptly named Wingnutz Bar & Grill, which insists on using only the freshest ingredients (the chickens they use are cage- and hormone-free) to produce grease-free baked morsels just as crispy as their fried counterparts and best served with draft beer.

Southern Tier Brewing Company Buffalo offers a premier dining and sports-watching experience in Downtown Buffalo, just steps from the arena, swimming pools and hockey rinks. Featuring a massive 36.5-foot TV screen, an extensive menu of beer-inspired dishes, and taproom tastings of specialty beers and cider, Southern Tier is the place for guests can cheer on their favorite teams or celebrate a victory.

In the heart of downtown Buffalo, the Pizza Plant is known for its famous Pod, a specialty pizza baked in a distinctive folded crust. A stone’s throw from Canalside and KeyBank Center, this beloved family-owned restaurant also serves a full menu of varying pizzas, salads and pastas, including vegetarian and vegan options, all complemented by a wide array of craft beers, cocktails and wines.

With locations both in Buffalo proper and the nearby village of Depew, the Sidelines Sports Bar & Grill offers a laid-back atmosphere, wall-to-wall TV screens and delicious fare including appetizers such as the Bases Loaded Nachos, chicken won-tons and fried ravioli, while entrees include the Triple Play Grilled Cheese and the Bronx Bomber (homemade Italian-style meatballs on a garlic toasted French bread, smothered with marinara and melted provolone cheese).

All of the above and much more awaits visitors to a colorful city steeped in history, sports, culture, entertainment and dining in all of their myriad forms and flavors.

Over in Orchard Park, a southeastern suburb of Buffalo, the always lively Buffalo Sports Garden features an array of 21 screens to watch myriad local and national sports, as well as a bar menu stocked with the usual, plus dozens of craft beers from local breweries like Big Ditch Brewing, First Line Brewing, Buffalo Olde Brewery and more.
