Dallas Cowboys Move Headquarters to Frisco
Posted On: August 13, 2013 By :The Dallas Cowboys will move their corporate headquarters and team training to a new $115 million facility in Frisco, Texas, in a deal with the city and the local school district. The move ends the team’s long-time presence in the city of Irving, where the team moved in 1985 after the former Texas Stadium was built.
The 25-year agreement calls for a mixed-use development that will include the Cowboys’ headquarters as well as a multi-purpose, 12,000-seat, indoor stadium and two outdoor fields. The deal for the 20-acre site is a partnership between the team, the city and the Frisco Independent School District, which will have use of the facility for football, soccer and other sports.
The agreement also calls for at least one week per year of Cowboys training camp to be held in Frisco. The team currently practices in Oxnard, California.
“This is an exciting day in the history of the Dallas Cowboys,” said Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones. “We are committed to cooperatively creating a development that will be a source of great pride for the city of Frisco, the FISD and the Dallas Cowboys. We know first-hand how world-class facilities can create great interest, visibility and economic development. This is a community building partnership that will elevate and benefit all of the parties involved.”
Marla Roe, executive director of the Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the move will benefit the city. “ The new, mixed-use entertainment complex, branded with an internationally recognized icon like the Dallas Cowboys, will bring a whole new dimension of visitation to Frisco,” Roe said. “Current and new visitors alike will have a chance to watch Dallas Cowboys’ training camp at least one week each year, and the new events that will come to Frisco to use this new facility will add to the economic impact of this entire project.”
