ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to Host Women’s College Basketball Event
2024 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Showcase will take place November 21–24
Posted On: March 14, 2024 By :A four-team women’s basketball event will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, from November 21–24, with six games played at State Farm Field House.
The 2024 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Showcase has already announced two of the participating teams with the University of Louisville and University of South Florida, which will play on November 24. The rest of the teams and a full schedule will be released at a later date.
The WBCA event marks the return of women’s college hoops to Walt Disney World, which previously hosted the Honda Elite 4 Holiday Classic from 1998–2000 featuring teams that included UConn, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Penn State.
“The WBCA Showcase will offer a new way for college basketball and Disney fans to come together to celebrate incredible athletes competing at The Most Magical Place on Earth,” said Jorge Senior, Disney’s director of sports planning and development. “We are thrilled that women’s college basketball is coming back to ESPN Wide World of Sports.”
WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew announced the new tournament along with Senior and Jose Fernandez, University of South Florida women’s basketball coach and WBCA vice president.
“The WBCA Board of Directors is pleased to offer the new WBCA Showcase,” said Donehew. “We are proud to work with ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort and Orlando World Center Marriott to offer participating teams a first-class competition venue and hotel experience.”
