Greensboro, North Carolina, has been selected to host the 2020 U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

The event, which will be held January 20–26, 2020, will mark the third time the championships will be held in Greensboro, which also hosted in 2011 and 2015.

“Our skaters and our fans had high praise for the local organizing committee and how they worked to make our marquee event special,” said David Raith, executive director of U.S. Figure Skating, referring to the past events. “We look forward to returning to Greensboro.”

Sports & Properties Inc. of Cary, North Carolina, will direct the local organizing committee, serving a similar role as it did for both previous events in Greensboro.

“We are very excited to be selected to host the U.S. Figure Skating Championships again in 2020,” said Sports & Properties Inc. CEO Hill Carrow, who will chair the local organizing committee. “We will be working to top our excellent ratings as a previous host. In particular we will be focused on attracting large and enthusiastic crowds of spectators to support the outstanding U.S. Figure Skating athletes who are among the best figure skaters in the world.”

The award came after Greensboro made more than $6 million in improvements since the last event to Gate City Boulevard, which serves as the main connector between Interstate 40 and the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The project included reconfiguring and repaving traffic lanes, landscaped medians, brick pavers, wrought iron stoplight and lighting fixtures, crosswalk pavers and benches.
