USA Diving and the U.S. Olympic Committee have awarded Indianapolis the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials–Diving. The event will be staged at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI and will determine the divers who will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

More than 100 of the nation’s best divers are expected to vie for spots on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team. The event will take place over the course of eight days in June 2016, with final competition dates to be determined. Indianapolis previously hosted the trials in 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2008. USA Diving will partner with Indiana Sports Corp on the 2016 event.

“We’re excited to bring the trials back to Indianapolis. The city has such a rich tradition in diving history, and we’re thrilled to continue that in 2016,” said Linda Paul, president and CEO of USA Diving. “We were very impressed with the spirit, vision and commitment the city presented in its bid. We look forward to a great partnership with Indianapolis and the local organizing committee to create a spectacular experience for the athletes, coaches, fans and community.”

Indianapolis was selected following a three-month process that included site visits to six potential host cities before the field was narrowed down to two finalists: Indianapolis and Atlanta.

“Our community is honored to be chosen as the home for the 2016 trials,” said Allison Melangton, Indiana Sports Corp president. “The bid we put forward was truly one based on how our entire community would embrace the sport of diving and these Olympic trials. Landing a marquee event such as this is not possible without community support and great partners like the city of Indianapolis, the state of Indiana, Indiana University, Visit Indy and others. We are excited to work with our friends at USA Diving to create a magnificent event for these elite athletes, fans, and a national television audience.”

With the help of Indiana Sports Corp, USA Diving also will expand and enhance the AT&T H20 Zone, the fan experience area that debuted at the 2008 trials in Indianapolis and continued at the 2012 trials.
