LA28 Releases Competition Schedule
Dates are now set for events across nearly every sport on the program
Posted On: November 12, 2025 By :The official schedule has been set for the 2028 Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles, featuring 51 sports across 49 venues in competition zones across Los Angeles as well as events in Oklahoma City.
“With Olympic ticket registration opening in January of 2026, now is the time to start planning what events you want to attend, which sports are coming to your neighborhood and the moments of history you don’t want to miss,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “Athletes and fans from around the world now have what they need to plan an unforgettable Olympic experience.”
The Olympic Opening Ceremony will be held on July 14, 2028 at 8:00 p.m. ET, with the Closing Ceremony set for July 30, 2028, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Among the highlights of the schedule:
- For the first time since the Sydney Games in 2000, the first medal event of the Games will be triathlon, with the women’s event taking place in the Venice Beach Zone on Day 1.
- The final champions will be named on Day 16 in swimming, just before the Olympic Closing Ceremony.
- With track-and-field events switching to the first week of the Games, LA28 will stay true to Olympic tradition, offering the marathon on the event’s final weekend.
- Day 1 will showcase the most women’s finals ever held in a single day starting with women’s triathlon and continuing with the women’s 100m and shot put in track and field, women’s -48kg in judo, women’s epee individual in fencing, women’s kayak single in canoe slalom, women’s rugby sevens and women’s 10m air rifle.
- Day 15 on the final weekends will be a “Super Saturday” will feature 26 finals sessions across 23 sports. This includes 15 gold and bronze medal team sport matches, alongside finals for 15 individual sports, with Olympic champions to be named in artistic swimming, athletics (marathon), basketball, beach volleyball, bmx freestyle, boxing, canoe sprint, cricket, cycling track, equestrian, football, golf, hockey, lacrosse, rhythmic gymnastics, softball, sport climbing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling and weightlifting.
- Baseball and softball will make their return for the first time since 2020, with gold medal games on Day 5 and Day 15, respectively. The baseball tournament will begin the day before the Opening Ceremony, with a new competition window designed to facilitate Major League Baseball players to participate in the tournament. Softball games will be played in Oklahoma City.
- The Games’ other new or revived sports will be spread out across the schedule with cricket ending on Day 6 for the women and Day 15 for the men. Lacrosse will see both its men’s and women’s champions crowned on Day 15. Flag football and squash will debut on Day 1 with medals awarded later in the week.
Olympic Ticketing Information
Registration for LA28 Olympic Games tickets will begin in January 2026 on LA28.org. Tickets will be managed by LA28’s Official Ticketing Service Provider AXS and EVENTIM, with hospitality experiences and packages offered by On Location, the Games’ official and exclusive hospitality provider.
Details for the soccer tournament, which will see matches in stadiums across the country, including several final stage matches at the Rose Bowl Stadium, will be announced at a later date. The LA28 Paralympic competition schedule by day, session and event will also be shared at a later date.
