LA28 Unveils Schedule for Paralympic Summer Games
The release comes with 1,000 days to go until the competition begins
Posted On: November 20, 2025 By :LA28 has unveiled the first look at the 2028 Paralympic schedule, which will feature an unprecedented number of sports and medals, an announcement that comes at the official 1,000-day countdown until Los Angeles’ first Paralympic Games.
The 2028 Paralympic schedule will take place over 15 days, and feature more than 15,000 para-athletes who will compete across 23 sports and 560 medal events.
The 2028 Paralympic Opening Ceremony has been scheduled for August 15, 2028, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, while the Games will close on August 27, 2028, at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Two days of competition will precede the Opening Ceremony.
“We’re excited to mark 1,000 days from the LA28 Paralympic Games as we set the stage for athletes, fans and the global community to unite in a celebration of sport, resilience and human potential,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said. “The Paralympic competition schedule reflects our athlete-first approach in planning and creating unforgettable competition moments across the region as we prepare to welcome the Paralympic Games to Los Angeles for the very first time.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said: “In just 1,000 days, we will make history by hosting the first-ever Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, one that will feature the most women athletes ever competing on this world stage. I can’t wait to celebrate the elite athleticism and determination of some of the world’s greatest athletes and to see Los Angeles shine.”
Developed in collaboration with each sport’s international federation and Olympic broadcasting services, and with the support of the International Paralympic Committee, the competition schedule has been designed to prioritize the needs and wellbeing of the competitors, while also maximizing spectator and viewership opportunities on both a domestic and international scale.
Among the key highlights of the Games:
- Wheelchair rugby and boccia will kick off the 2028 Paralympics in the two days leading up to the Opening Ceremony. While the schedule placement allows increased visibility to those sports, no athletes will be eliminated in their sports prior to the Opening Ceremony.
- The first medals will be handed out on Day One to LA28 Paralympic champions in para athletics, wheelchair fencing, shooting para sport, para equestrian and para cycling track.
- 2028 will also mark the Paralympic debut of para climbing after it was successfully added to the sports program in 2024. In addition, there will be extended formats for the wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball competitions.
- A packed schedule awaits on the final weekend of the Games, with finals taking place across 17 sports, including blind football [soccer], para athletics, para badminton, para climbing, para powerlifting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.
The competition schedule remains subject to change, and a more detailed edition is due to be released in 2026. The current Paralympic competition schedule by day and by session is now available at LA28.org.
Los Angeles will become just the third city to host three Olympic Games in 2028, after staging the Games in 1932 and 1984, but it will be the first time that it hosts the Paralympic Games.
