MAAC Basketball Tournament to Stay in Atlantic City
Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall will remain the venue for three more years
Posted On: March 8, 2023 By :The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced that Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, will remain host for the league’s men’s and women’s basketball tournament championships, extending the arena’s hosting rights through 2026.
“I am pleased to announce the selection of Atlantic City’s Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall as the site for the 2024–2026 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “I want to thank all the facilities that bid to host the championships, which reflects the continued interest in the event and the value it brings to a host community.”
In 2018, Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall was selected to host three MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from 2020 to 2022. The 2020 championships were cut short due to Covid, while the 2021 championships presented limited access as a result of the pandemic. Last March, the MAAC agreed to a one-year extension with Boardwalk Hall, paving the way for the 2023 tournament to remain in the destination.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled that the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference chose Atlantic City as the destination for their 2024–2026 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, and it is a testament to the incremental growth our seaside destination has seen in recent years,” said Larry Sieg, president and chief executive officer of Visit Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Sports Commission. “Our goal is to continue to grow the number of sporting events that host their competitions and conventions in our destination, and this is a crucial step towards that goal.”
The 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from started Tuesday with action going through Saturday.
