The Formula 1 2022 race schedule will have 23 events, the most in the circuit’s history, as well as two events in the United States with Miami on May 8 and Austin, Texas, on October 23. Along with the return of the Canadian Grand Prix, Formula 1 will race four times in North America, the first time that has happened since 1984.

The Miami Grand Prix will be F1’s return to the state of Florida for the first time since 1959. Taking place at the Miami International Autodrome in the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens, the new track will feature 19 corners and three straightaways. Austin will host the 2021 U.S. Grand Prix later this month at the Circuit of the Americas, which has been the race’s home since 2012 with the exception of the 2020 event that was canceled because of the pandemic.

“We are very pleased with the interest in Formula 1 from places that want to host races and the growth of the sport, and believe we have a fantastic calendar for 2022 with destinations like Miami joining famous and historic venues,” F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said. “The pandemic is still with us, and we will therefore continue to be vigilant and safe — to protect all our personnel and the communities we visit.”

The season will begin in Bahrain on March 20 and finish in Abu Dhabi on November 20. Due to ongoing pandemic conditions, China will not be included on the 2022 calendar but will be restored to the calendar as soon as conditions allow. Races will be held in Japan, Canada and Australia for the first time in two years.

“The 2022 season follows an unprecedented two years for Formula 1 in which the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in revised calendar of 17 races in 2020 and 22 races in 2021 – a huge achievement given the international nature of the sport,” said F1 in a statement. “While we hope the virus recedes further in the coming months for everyone around the world, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and work closely with the promoters and national authorities.”
