New International Esports Federation President Nominated

Colin Webster is only candidate ahead of December meeting

Posted On: November 20, 2019 By : Matt Traub

Colin Webster, who previously spent five years on the board of the International eSports Federation, will become the organization’s president during its December general meetings.

Webster is the only nominated candidate for the president’s position. Silviu Stroie has been the acting president since December 2018 after the resignation of Jun Byung-hun. Once confirmed in December in Seoul, Webster will serve a three-year term as president.

Esports has been making efforts to be recognized by the Olympic movement and has seen organized tournaments become part of larger multisport events, including the European Games in Minsk, Belarus, in June. There will be an exhibition esports event in Tokyo next year timed around theĀ Olympic Summer Games with a prize pool of $500,000 for Rocket League and Street Fighter V as a partnership between the International Olympic Committee and Intel. The field for the event will be determined after a series of online qualifiers in early 2020.
