Oklahoma City Renews Deal With SMG

Posted On: April 3, 2013 By : Staff

The Oklahoma City Council has approved the renewal of the city’s agreement with SMG to continue managing the Cox Convention Center and the Chesapeake Energy Arena. SMG has been operating the facilities since 1999.

“A first-class arena, a first-class basketball team and a vibrant economy didn’t happen by accident. They are the direct result of the leadership and vision shown by the leaders and citizens of Oklahoma City. We are proud to be part of the city’s future,” said Doug Thornton, SMG senior vice-president of stadiums and arenas.

Chesapeake Energy Arena seats more than 18,000 and is home to the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder. Cox Convention Center is home to the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons and houses a 15,000-seat arena and 100,000 square feet of exhibition space.
