Orlando North Seminole County Sports and Full Sail University’s Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting in Florida have announced a collaboration that will allow students to gain hands-on experience at youth sports events held in area sports venues. The venture will give students experience in research and reporting at events held at the Boombah Sports Complex, Boombah Soldiers Creek Park, Sylvan Lake Park, Sanlando Park and other county parks.

Students enrolled in Full Sail’s sportscasting degree program will gain on-field access to events in baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, field hockey, football and other youth national tournaments and championships. Through the program, students will be able to practice content creation, interviewing, methods of storytelling on multimedia platforms, vocal training for sportscasting, sportscasting at live sporting events both on camera and behind the scenes, press conference organization, broadcast technology and the creation of innovative multi-media communication content.

The university will then provide the county sports commission with event recap videos and still images taken by students, with the aim of using those assets to promote the destination.

“We are extremely excited about the partnership with Orlando North Seminole County Sports and Full Sail University’s Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting,” said Danny Trosset, director of sports tourism for Seminole County, who will help coordinate the effort by working with event organizers, athletes and coaches. “It’s all about creating a memorable experience for the athletes, coaches and fans, all while enhancing educational opportunities for the next generation of sportscasters. This unique partnership will allow us to do exactly that. This is a game changer for Seminole County and we are thrilled to be at the forefront of this initiative.”

Boombah Sports Complex, which features 15 lighted fields, opened in 2016 and has hosted more than 200 events since, attracting an estimated 500,000 visitors to the complex.
