Asunción, Paraguay, has been selected to host the 2031 Pan American Games. The announcement was made at the recent Extraordinary General Assembly of Panam Sports.

“This is a day that will forever be remembered in the history of Paraguayan sport. We have shown that small countries can also dream big and turn those dreams into reality,” said Camilo Pérez López Moreira, president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee. “Asunción 2031 will be a legacy for all of the Americas — Games designed for the athletes, sustainable, inclusive and profoundly human.”

The 2027 Games will be held in Lima, Peru. The last Pan American Games held in the United States were in 1987 in Indianapolis.

“Today, Paraguay makes history once again,” said Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña. “Hosting the 2031 Pan American Games is recognition of the effort of an entire nation that believes in sport as a driver of development, education and unity. These Games will be an opportunity to show the world a modern, green, youthful Paraguay committed to its people.”
