Paris 2024 Announces Paralympic Games Event Calendar
Twenty-two Para sports and 549 events scheduled across 11 days of competition
Posted On: February 2, 2023 By :With less than 600 days to go before France hosts its first Paralympic Games, Paris 2024 has unveiled its competition schedule which will see elite athletes compete over 11 days of action between August 28 through September 8.
The event schedule, developed in collaboration with the International Federations, International Paralympic Committee and Olympic Broadcasting Services, gives a picture of what fans around the world can look forward to at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. There will be 22 Para sports on the programme (23 disciplines) for a total of 549 events, spread over 267 sessions.
The competitions will start the day after the Opening Ceremony on August 29 with Wheelchair Rugby, Para Taekwondo, Para Archery, Boccia, Para Table Tennis, Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball, Para Badminton, Para Swimming, Sitting Volleyball and Para Cycling. The first medals will be awarded in Para Taekwondo (three medals), Para Swimming (16 medals) and Para Cycling (four medals). In total, 23 medals will be awarded on the first day.
The Paralympic Games will feature a record number of medal events for women. On September 8, the last day of competition, the majority of events will be women’s events. No less than 14 medals will be awarded on the final day in Wheelchair Basketball (one medal), Para Weightlifting (four medals), Para Athletics (four medals in Para Marathon), and Para Canoe (five medals).
Tickets will go on sale starting in the fall of 2023 with Paris 2024 offering accessible pricing to enable as many people as possible. Ticket prices for all Para sports will start from as little as 15 euros ($16.50).
