Paris Launches Esports Task Force
Group established on heels of 2023 CS:GO Blast Major
Posted On: June 2, 2023 By :A task force that will be focused on hosting major esports events has been started by the city of Paris and Paris je t’aime – Tourist Office with the aim of turning France’s capital city into a key destination for esports in Europe over the next five years.
The task force estimates 10.8 million people engage in and watch esports in France. The French capital has already hosted a number of major events, including the 2019 League of Legends, the 2022 Trackmania Cup and the 2023 CS:GO Blast Major Paris.
Paris je t’aime has been appointed by the city to coordinate the task force. It seeks to support applications to host flagship events, providing organizers with support in relation to hosting, making venues available and implementing initiatives for hosting venues. These commitments will be formalized in a special charter based on the template for hosting major events in Paris.
The task force was set up in the presence of Pénélope Komitès, deputy mayor in charge of innovation and preparing Paris for 2030, as well as ensuring its appeal and resilience, and Karim Ziady, advisor to Pierre Rabadan in charge of sport and esport, with support from a number of other major Paris bodies.
The task force will bring together the teams of Pénélope Komitès (deputy mayor in charge of innovation and preparing Paris for 2030, as well as ensuring its appeal and resilience), Frédéric Hocquard (deputy mayor in charge of tourism and nightlife) and Rabadan (deputy mayor of Paris in charge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Seine) along with major events venues in Paris as well as corporate players throughout the city.
