Portugal Claims Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, World Cup Base Camp
Portugal will compete in its ninth Men's FIFA World Cup in 2026
Posted On: May 13, 2026 By :The Portuguese Men’s National Soccer Team, headed by Cristiano Ronaldo, has secured a base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Palm Beach, Florida.
Although the news has not yet been announced by the Portuguese Football Federation, The Palm Beach Post and Palm Beach County Sports Commission have both confirmed that the team will train at the Gardens North County District Park in Palm Beach Gardens for the duration of the tournament.
The 82-acre team base camp training site opened in June 2019 for a cost of $13.7 million. It features seven lighted multipurpose fields that the Portuguese team will have access to during training sessions.
There is no confirmed news about the team’s accommodation during the World Cup, however.
Portugal joins Curaçao in preparing for the World Cup at a team base camp training site in Palm Beach County. Earlier this year, the “Blue Wave” (La Familia Azul) revealed it would use Florida Atlantic University (FAU) as its principal training facility and stay at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center in Boca Raton, Florida between matches.
“Securing two Team Base Camps for the FIFA World Cup is an extraordinary milestone for Palm Beach County and a testament to years of strategic effort, collaboration, and vision,” said George Linley, executive director of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. “Hosting both Portugal and Curaçao underscores the global confidence in our world-class facilities, hospitality infrastructure, and operational expertise.
“Our team has worked relentlessly to position The Palm Beaches on the international stage, and this achievement reflects that commitment. We are proud to welcome these elite teams and look forward to delivering an exceptional experience that showcases everything our destination has to offer.”
Roberto Martinez‘ side will compete in Group K at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, beginning their campaign against Congo DR in Houston on June 17. They will stay in Houston to take on debutants Uzbekistan on June 23, before meeting Colombia in Miami on June 27 to conclude the group stage.
Portugal will compete in its ninth Men’s FIFA World Cup in 2026, and it will represent the national team’s seventh successive participation in the tournament.
