As the America’s Cup, Volvo Ocean Race, Extreme Sailing Series and Sailing World Cup hit the water, the eyes of the world will be watching elite athletes crew the most sophisticated boats in existence. But even as organizers prepare for these international sailing spectacles, sports leaders are working on the community level to remove barriers to the sport and persuade people—from young children to retirees—to get on boats and feel the wind in their sails.
