Skyscanner Debuts Sportscast Tool to Help Sports Enthusiasts Plan Trips

New tool is designed to ensure optimal, fair-weather conditions when searching for sports trips

Global travel platform Skyscanner has announced the launch of  Sportscast, a new search tool that is designed to transform how sports enthusiasts plan their trips, guiding them to destinations that ensure optimal, fair-weather conditions for their favorite sports and activities.

The company’s latest update responds directly to evolving traveler behavior, where sports interests and hobbies are increasingly influencing holiday choices.

Data from Skyscanner highlighted a notable surge in experience-led travel, with “Sport Mode” travel generating significant bookings. Nearly half of travelers plan trips around sporting events, with Gen Z-ers combining trips with hiking (29 percent) and water sports (31 percent), while 15 percent of Gen Z pack their yoga mats, with half of this generation choosing hotels based on yoga classes and gym access.

From golfers in search of pristine course conditions to cyclists and hikers who want to avoid heavy rain, strong winds and high temperatures for enjoyable and safe adventures, Sportscast has been created to help users make the best choices.

Smart Searches

By marrying weather data and popular destinations based on activity, Sportscast will provide recommendations on locations and the best time of year to go. For example, if a traveler is searching for a hiking holiday in July, it will suggest a location where they are likely to be able to ramble without rainfall.
Two types of sports trips where their perceived success can depend on weather conditions are:

Skyscanner connects millions of travelers, in 52 countries and 37 languages, to over 1,200 trusted travel partners so they can find flight, hotel, car rental or train options each month. The company aims to simplify the complexity of travel and provide honest and transparent solutions by searching around 100 billion prices each day.
