Snohomish County Reports Strong Sports Rebound in 2021

The area of Washington state recorded more than 100 events last year

The Snohomish County (Washington) Sports Commission saw a considerable rebound in sports tourism in 2021 with an optimistic outlook for the year ahead.

The county north of Seattle reported that it hosted 110 sports events during 2021 that generated $14.3 million in visitor direct spending and generated an estimated 11,900 room nights. The events attracted nearly 75,000 people to the region.

“The rebound in sports events in 2021 showcases Snohomish County as a premier sports destination,” said Tammy Dunn, Snohomish County Sports Commission executive director. “Our partnerships with the local sports organizations, community and venues provided an opportunity for us to host sports events again. We are excited about the number of sports events that are lined up for 2022.”

Annual sports tournaments that returned included Harvey Cup Boys Lacrosse, the Ice Fest Skating Competition, NSA of Washington Fastpitch tournaments, the Snohomish Bigfoot Soccer Tournament, Cascade Cup Girls Lacrosse and Spartan Race Trifecta.

The also attracted new events including the USTA PNW Adult 55 & Over Section Championship, the USTA PNW Mixed 18 & Over Section Championship, the US Club Soccer Northwest Cup Regional, the USA Archery Field Nationals, the Monroe Criterium, the Spikeball National Tour and the USA Gymnastics XCEL Gold/Platinum/Diamond State Championship.

The area also see growth in participation in sports such as cornhole, pickleball and disc golf.
