Posted On: October 6, 2026 By :Spencer Olmstead has been named Sports Sales Manager at Visit Wichita, his latest step since joining his hometown organization last year.
In his new role, Olmstead will focus on developing and cultivating relationships with local, regional and national sports stakeholders, identifying new event opportunities and positioning the city as a destination for events.
“Spencer has proven himself to be a valuable member of our sports team, and his experience working directly with events gives him a strong foundation as he transitions into sports sales,” said Josh Howell, vice president of sports development at Visit Wichita. “He understands what rights holders need from a host destination and has seen firsthand what Wichita can deliver. We’re excited for him to pursue an area of the industry he’s passionate about while continuing to contribute to the growth of sports tourism in Wichita.”
Olmstead is a Wichita native who graduated from Wichita State University in 2025 before joining Visit Wichita that September as Sports Coordinator. He moved into the role of Sports Event Manager in January 2026 and has worked closely with rights holders, venues, and community sponsors.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to move into sports sales and help bring more events to Wichita,” said Olmstead. “Working directly with events has given me a better understanding of what rights holders, athletes and organizers need from a host city. I’m looking forward to using that experience to build relationships, share what Wichita has to offer and create new opportunities for our community.”
Wichita will host Opening Round games in the 2027 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament as part of the expansion of the Big Dance to 76 teams. It was named Best Sports Host City at the 2025 Sports Travel Awards.
