Superdome Renovations Approved
First phase would be finished in time for 2024 Super Bowl
Posted On: November 17, 2019 By :The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, one of the iconic venues in sports, will undergo a series of renovations to modernize the fan experience with the first phase of a $450 million renovation approved recently by the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District.
The home of the New Orleans Saints, plus the Allstate Sugar Bowl, seven Super Bowls and five NCAA Final Fours, will have renovations done by Louisiana-based construction firm Broadmoor . The first phase will not be noticed much by fans, with food service areas built and exits added.
The first phase will cost around $100 million, Trahan Architects CEO Victor Trahan told NOLA.com. Later phases will be more noticeable with ticketed standing-room-only areas similar to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Future renovations will include atriums that will replace the stadium’s current system of ramps, plus improved concourses and field-level end zone boxes.
Owned by the state of Louisiana and operated by ASM Global, the Superdome opened in 1975. With a capacity of 73,208, the stadium will host the College Football Playoff Championship game on January 13, 2020, and work is expected to begin on the renovations shortly after. Full renovations are planned for completion ahead of the Superdome hosting the 2024 Super Bowl. The Saints’ lease at the Superdome runs through 2025.
