U.S. Figure Skating Celebrates National Get Up Day

Posted On: January 30, 2019 By : Jason Gewirtz

On February 1, U.S. Figure Skating will invite people from around the United States to participate in the third annual National Get Up Day. As part of the event, people are encouraged to share stories that embody the “Get Up spirit” at WeGetUp.com, by using #WeGetUp or #NationalGetUpDay on social platforms or by contacting their local media outlet with their story, the story of a friend or loved one, or an organization that is doing inspiring work in their community.

U.S. Figure Skating describes the day as one to “celebrate perseverance, grit and the overall commitment to get up when we get knocked down,” even for those not involved with the sport. “The first lesson in skating is how to fall down, and more importantly, how to get back up again, a lesson all participants can apply across all aspects of their lives,” according to the national governing body.

The national day of celebration began two years ago as part of U.S. Figure Skating’s Get Up campaign that concluded in May 2018. The campaign was built on the idea that people fall, but it’s how they get up that matters.

To celebrate the day, U.S. Figure Skating is encouraging participants to start a conversation about what the theme of the day means, spread the word to friends, family members, co-workers and social media followers and use #WeGetUp in social media posts.
