UAB to Host Sports and Athlete Housing for The World Games 2022
The Birmingham university will also sponsor elements of the event and provide language services
Posted On: May 20, 2021 By :The University of Alabama at Birmingham will participate in The World Games 2022, reaching an agreement to host several competitions across its campus and partner with the global multisport event on several initiatives.
Under terms of the deal, competitions for The World Games 2022 will take place throughout UAB’s campus, including BBVA Field, the home of UAB men’s and women’s soccer, which will host lacrosse. Tug of war will be staged at UAB’s track-and-field venues. And racquetball and squash will be held on the courts and gymnasiums of UAB’s University Recreation Center.
“UAB is uniquely situated and prepared to support The World Games and ensure that Birmingham makes the most of this great, unique opportunity to showcase our city and state to the world,” said UAB President Ray L. Watts. “The UAB community looks forward to being gracious hosts for athletes and spectators alike, and our campus and its amenities offer a beautiful and modern setting that will leave a lasting, positive impression.”
In addition to hosting sports during the event, UAB will serve as the foundation sponsor for The World Games 2022 Legacy Memorial and as the presenting sponsor of UAB Athlete Village, which will serve as housing for athletes, coaches and officials. UAB Medicine will also be the presenting sponsor for athletics and spectator medical services at The World Games 2022 venues.
Lastly, the university will also provide language services for international athletes and visitors.

Having this academic, athletic and medical cornerstone of Birmingham as a major partner of The World Games 2022 represents a strong commitment from our community to this historic moment.”
The World Games will be held July 7–17, 2022.
