USA Triathlon to Host Race Directors Meeting at TEAMS ’26
The agreement with the Northstar Meetings Group will also allow triathlon organizers to participate at TEAMS
Posted On: August 13, 2026 By :USA Triathlon, the national governing body for the sport in the United States, will host a first-of-its-kind meeting for triathlon race directors at TEAMS ’26 in Birmingham, Alabama, in partnership with the Northstar Meetings Group, organizers of the TEAMS Conference & Expo.
Under the agreement, USA Triathlon will invite triathlon race directors across the United States to participate in a workshop on topics of relevance to organizers of triathlon events, including expanding event portfolios, building relationships with destination partners and understanding available financial incentives. TEAMS will provide space for the meeting and invite qualified race directors to participate in the TEAMS Conference & Expo, the largest gathering of sports-event organizers in the world, where they will have opportunities to meet with potential host destinations and suppliers for their events.
The meeting is part of USA Triathlon’s ongoing commitment to supporting the race directors and event organizers who sanction more than 800 multisport events nationwide each year. By connecting organizers directly with destination partners, suppliers, and industry education, USA Triathlon aims to help grow event portfolios and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the sport at the grassroots level.
The agreement is separate from a longstanding partnership Northstar has with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee for TEAMS to serve as the exclusive home of the Olympic & Paralympic SportsLink educational program, which will continue to be offered to all attendees of the conference.
“We are honored that USA Triathlon has put their trust in the TEAMS Conference to serve as the home for this important meeting for organizers of triathlon events, which are some of the largest drivers of travel in the industry,” said Jason Gewirtz, senior vice president of content for the Northstar Meetings Group and the publisher of SportsTravel. “These are exactly the kind of mutually beneficial partnerships we have sought to make TEAMS the largest tent possible in the sports-event industry. We’re excited to welcome these important event organizers and to provide them and all our attendees at TEAMS with further business development and educational opportunities in the industry.”
“This partnership gives our race directors a seat at the table they’ve never had before,” said Victoria Brumfield, CEO of USA Triathlon. “Triathlon events are a major economic driver for host communities across the country, and this workshop will give our organizers practical tools — from building destination partnerships to understanding financing options — to grow their events and strengthen the sport at every level.”
TEAMS ’26, hosted by the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, October 26–29, 2026. For more information, visit www.teamsconference.com.
