USOC Names Fitzgerald Mosley to New Position
Posted On: June 20, 2013 By :The U.S. Olympic Committee has named Benita Fitzgerald Mosley as the chief of organizational excellence, reporting to USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. Fitzgerald Mosley previously served as the chief of sport performance for USA Track & Field, including during the 2012 Olympic Summer Games. Prior to USATF, she was president and CEO of Women in Cable Telecommunications (2001–2009) after serving in a variety of roles for the USOC, including director of the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center (1995–1997), director of U.S. Olympic Training Centers (1997–2000) and director of public relations programs (2000–2001).
“The opportunity to return to the USOC and continue to serve the Olympic movement in a broader role is a dream come true,” said Fitzgerald Mosley. “The USOC has dedicated itself to competitive excellence and I look forward to helping the organization take that mission to the next level.”
“I’m extraordinarily excited about this addition to our team,” said Blackmun. “We have to ensure that we continue to evolve as an organization and hold ourselves to the same standards as our athletes, and Benita will help us do just that.”
In her new role, Fitzgerald Mosley will oversee a number of organizational priorities, including athlete career programs and the athlete ombudsman’s office. Additionally, she will assume many of the responsibilities of outgoing Chief Administrative Officer Kirsten Volpi, including diversity and inclusion, human resources, facilities, NGB organizational development, security, and strategic planning. Volpi is returning to the Colorado School of Mines, where she previously served as chief financial officer.
In addition, the USOC announced other organizational changes, including the departure of Mike English, who was chief of sports operations. English oversaw significant changes to the OTC business models and major construction projects at the three U.S. Olympic Training Centers.
Rick Adams, meanwhile, has been named chief of sport operations and NGB relations and will add oversight of the three OTCs to his NGB organizational development responsibilities. He will report to Fitzgerald Mosley.
