The 2027 USA Curling Men’s & Women’s National Championships will be held in West Des Moines, Iowa, the organization announced today. Games will be held at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex from January 24-30, though full schedule and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

“Both in Des Moines area and throughout Iowa, we have seen tremendous enthusiasm for our sport,” said USA Curling CEO Dean Gemmell. “The MidAmerican Energy RecPlex is an outstanding, modern venue, and we’re excited to partner with them on our marquee championship. The field will include Olympians who will be familiar to sports fans, along with talented up-and-comers, and fans who have watch the sport on television won’t want to miss an opportunity to see it in person.”

Gemmell added, “Coming out of the Olympics and Paralympics, our sport is surging in popularity, and these championships will capitalize on that. We’re also excited to work with the dedicated curlers in Des Moines. They are working towards a full-time curling facility—that would be terrific recreational asset for the community and a terrific legacy for this event.”

The event is expected to draw a signifiant number of fans, families and media to West Des Moines to see the country’s top athletes in the sport vie for national titles and the chance to represent the U.S. in international events.

“Hosting the USA Curling Men’s and Women’s National Championship is an incredible opportunity for our community, especially on the heels of the Olympics, when curling captured such widespread attention,” said Trina Flack, president and CEO of Catch Des Moines.  “Fans will be able to experience the sport up close at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex, while top competitors from across the country discover everything our region has to offer. It’s another example that highlights our growing reputation as a destination for major national events.”

Later this summer, Des Moines will host the AAU Junior Olympics. Among the events the area has hosted in recent years is the 2024 Youth and Junior Nationals for USA Traithlon.

Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse combined to win a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the 2026 Winter Olympics, the only medal for the U.S. during those Games.

Neither the U.S. men nor women finished in the top three at this year’s Curling World Championships, which took place last month. The men’s event was held in Ogden, Utah, while the women’s competition took place in Canada.
