The Lone Star State may want to change the saying to “everything’s biggest in Texas.” That’s because Arlington and Dallas teamed up with World Wrestling Entertainment to stage what was a record-breaking WrestleMania 32. “WrestleMania Week in Dallas and Arlington created a historical result that had more than 165,000 people from all 50 states and 35 countries taking part throughout the week for WWE’s largest annual celebration,” said John Saboor, executive vice-president of special events at WWE. “We were expecting 130,000-plus.”
While a ticketing glitch caused some fans to wait hours to get into AT&T Stadium for the main event, single-event attendance records were nonetheless smashed. According to WWE, 101,763 attended the main event on April 3, besting the previous record of 93,173 at WrestleMania III in Pontiac, Michigan. New highs were also posted in viewership, social media activity and merchandise sales.
