The National Hockey League has canceled the 2013 Winter Classic, which was scheduled for January 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with other events planned for Comerica Park in Detroit. In addition, the league has canceled the 2013 All-Star Weekend, which had been planned for January 26–27 in Columbus, Ohio. The cancellations come as the league’s lockout extends further into the regular season. The NHL said it intends to hold the next Winter Classic in Ann Arbor. The league said it will work with Columbus to return the game there as well “as quickly as possible.”
