The Big 12 Conference and Kansas City have built a strong relationship when it comes to the conference’s basketball tournaments.

The Missouri city has been the site for the men’s basketball tournament since 2010 and with a recent extension, it will remain there until at least 2027. The women’s tournament returned to the area in 2020, and also is extended until 2027.

In 2022, the Phillips 66 men’s tournament was played at T-Mobile Center, where crowds have averaged almost 18,000 people each year. The women’s tournament took place at Municipal Auditorium, which recorded the highest number of attendees for the women’s basketball quarterfinals since 2013.
