Chicago Nations Cup to Feature Crystal Palace, Millonarios

English Premier League club will also play Sevilla at Comerica Park in Detroit during July preseason tour

Elite Promotions Group will hold The Chicago Nations Cup, a preseason match between English Premier League club Crystal Palace and Categoria Primera A’s Millonarios FC out of Colombia, at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, on July 26, as part of Palace’s U.S. tour that also includes a match against La Liga’s Sevilla at Comerica Park in Detroit on July 30.

The Chicago Nations Cup will mark the return of international football to Chicago, a city that has hosted teams such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the past. The match will be played at SeatGeek Stadium, former home of MLS’ Chicago Fire and current home of the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars.

Crystal Palace is currently 12th in the English Premier League and the Eagles will enter their 11th consecutive season in the top-flight of English football next season. Crystal Palace includes not only U.S. national team defender Chris Richards but U.S. soccer fans are familiar with the Eagles’ home stadium as Selhurst Park serves as the location for Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond’s home ground on the hit TV show.

“We are absolutely delighted to return to the U.S. for the first time since 2016,” Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish said. “We have so many loyal supporters Stateside who regularly visit us in London, and even more who wake up early every weekend to watch on NBC — so it will be a fantastic to play in front of them all against such strong opposition this July. ”

The Chicago Nations Cup will simultaneously act as a mid-season match for Millonarios, who’s playing season runs through November. Millonarios FC was founded in 1946 and since then it has won 15 local titles, 3 Colombian Cup titles, one Colombia Super League title and one Conmebol Merconorte Cup.

“For Millonarios FC it’s an honor to continue representing Colombian football around the world, but even more when it’s about a match of these caliber with a huge rival as it is Crystal Palace from the Premier League,” Millonarios President Enrique Camacho said. “We will have the opportunity to meet again with the large number of blue fans who live at the United States, as every time we play there, we receive tremendous support from them.”

The match between Palace and Sevilla will be the first game at Comerica Park in six years. 313 Presents is coordinating the match as the Eagles take on Sevilla before the Spanish giants head to Mexico and California to participate in the LaLiga Summer Tour. Sevilla has won every possible domestic title (Copa Andalucia, LaLiga, Copa de Espaäa and Supercopa de Espafia) and holds the record number of UEFA Europa League trophies (6). This season they eliminated Manchester United in the quarterfinals and now face Juventus FC in the semifinals.

I am sure that there will be a unique atmosphere for this match. Seville FC is proud to visit Detroit and the United States of America and meet its fans.”
