Communities Across the United States Mark 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with Local Events

Cities nationwide will hold memorial stair climbs, walks and bike rides in remembrance of the September 11 terrorist attacks

It’s been 25 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks, and multiple cities across the United States are paying tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day

From memorial stair climbs in more than 65 locations to minor league baseball ticket donations just outside of New York City, organizations near and far from where the attacks took place have scheduled commemorative events in their communities.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs

When: September 1113; multiple additional dates across September

Where: Various cities across the United States 

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will hold over 65 stair–climbing events in multiple cities, such as Charlotte, North Carolina; Long Beach, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater in Colorado.

Participants will climb or walk the equivalent of 110 stories, representing the number of floors firefighters climbed to rescue individuals trapped in the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks.

These events help fund the NFFF, which supports families of fallen firefighters in multiple communities as well as the New York City Fire Department Counseling Service Unit.

Somerset Patriots AA Baseball 2K Ticket Donation to First Responders — Bridgewater, New Jersey

When: September 11 

Where: TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey

The Somerset Patriots, Class AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, are giving away over 2,000 tickets to first responders across Central New Jersey for their game against the Hartford Yard Goats on September 11.

Run for the Fallen

When: September 11 

Where: National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio 

Wright–Patterson Fitness and Sports, a physical recreation center managed by the the 88th Force Support Squadron at Wright–Patterson Air Force Base, will host the Run for the Fallen in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11.

This event is a 1.5–mile walk and a 2.5–mile run in memory of veterans, military members and civilians who lost their lives and loved ones affected by the events of 9/11.

Downhill Mountain Biking for Disabled Veterans

When: September 11 

Where: Winter Park, Colorado

Veterans Exploration Therapy, an organization focused on producing outdoor recreation events for veterans, is partnering with the National Sports Center for the Disabled to host a full day of downhill mountain biking in Winter Park, Colorado, to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

Eight disabled veterans with prior mountain biking experience can reserve a spot for the six–hour guided tour in Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk North Idaho

When: September 12

Where: Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation will hold a 5K run and walk on Saturday, September 12, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to raise money for injured first responders, military veterans and their families.

Participants receive commemorative coins, bracelets, hats and T–shirts for their donations.
