Henderson, Nevada, Approves Bonds for New Arena
Venue would be the future home of Golden Knights' AHL affiliate
Posted On: April 27, 2020 By :The Vegas Golden Knights‘ new AHL affiliate in nearby Henderson, Nevada, got one step closer to having its own facility when the Henderson City Council voted to approve $60 million in bonds for a new 6,000-seat multipurpose venue in the city.
The vote approved the funding for construction, with approval for the construction itself to be scheduled for a future city council meeting. The new hockey venue will be at the site of the Henderson Pavilion, an amphitheater that is owned by the city and hosts the Henderson Symphony Orchestra with a 40,000-square-foot canopy style roof.
The Golden Knights bought their new affiliate earlier in 2020, the former San Antonio Rampage franchise, and announced it would move the team in time for the 2020–2021 season, which will be played at Orleans Arena at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. The franchise will have headquarters and practice facilities at Lifeguard Arena, an under-construction venue in Henderson.
Before the Golden Knights came to town, Las Vegas had minor league hockey with the Las Vegas Thunder from 1993–1999 and the Las Vegas Wranglers in the ECHL ferom 2003–2014.
