Las Vegas On Deck For Next CFP Title Game
Allegiant Stadium will become the 11th venue to host the game
Posted On: January 20, 2026 By :In its first dozen years of existence, the College Football Playoff national championship game has become one of the most anticipated events on the sports calendar and one of the most sought-after events for cities to host. Ten different venues have already hosted the game, with Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium the only sites to do so multiple times.
Next year, Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium will become the 11th such venue to host, marking the latest step in the city’s transformation into an American sporing powerhouse. The game will take place on Monday, Jan. 25, 2027, the latest date ever for a college football title game.
The day after Indiana completed its shocking rise to the top of college football by beating Miami in the CFP national championship game at Hard Rock Stadium, Las Vegas took the handoff from Miami to officially begin its run as the site of the next CFP title game.
“Las Vegas is an exciting stage for college football,” said CFP executive director Rich Clark at a press conference to highlight the official transition. “The city has proven it can host world-class events, and we know the leadership in Las Vegas will help us deliver a championship experience worthy of the sport, the teams, and the fans.”
Las Vegas has rapidly become an epicenter for major sports events. It hosted the Super Bowl in 2024, the NHL All-Star Game in 2023, three Pac-12 football conference title games and a Formula 1 race each of the past three years. All of that is in addition to it being the home of teams in the NHL (the 2023 Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights), the WNBA (Las Vegas Aces, winners of three of the past four league titles), NFL (Las Vegas Raiders) and, starting in 2028, MLB’s Athletics.
“Las Vegas is ready and eager to light up college football’s biggest night,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Our city has the playbook, the people and the passion to deliver an unforgettable College Football Playoff National Championship.”
With 150,000 hotel rooms and a history of welcoming major attractions, there’s little doubt Vegas will be ready for the CFP. The only question is whether the city get a game as compelling as this yea’s CFP title game, with Indiana securing the title on an interception in the final minute, or Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium, in which the Chiefs beat the 49ers in overtime.
