Fenway Park in Boston and Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina, will host outdoor games next season while Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will host the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend, the league announced during its 2022 All-Star festivities in Las Vegas.

The Florida Panthers will host the 2023 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The weekend will include the All-Star Skills on February 3 and the All-Star Game on February 4. The 2023 event will mark the second time the Panthers and South Florida host NHL All-Star activities, as the Panthers previously hosted in 2003.

“We’re ready to welcome the all-stars and hockey fans for a warm winter escape to Greater Fort Lauderdale for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game,” said Stacy Ritter, president and chief executive officer of Visit Lauderdale. “From the action on the ice to sunny February days at the beach, we know hockey fans are in for a great weekend.”

The 2023 NHL Winter Classic will feature the Boston Bruins at Fenway Park, the fifth time the Bruins have been part of an outdoor game and the second that the home of the Boston Red Sox will be the site for the event. Boston defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in OT in the 2010 Winter Classic. The 2023 edition will mark the 15-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo.

“It’s been 12 years since we were at Fenway,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “A lot of money has been put into the building, it’s not quite the same ballpark. Boston is obviously a great hockey town. We’ve now done over 30 outdoor games; if you want to keep doing them you have to go back to some places. … It’ll be a new experience in a venue that has been transformed and modernized in some ways.”

The 2023 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will feature the Carolina Hurricanes at Carter-Finley Stadium, home of the NC State Wolfpack. It will be the first regular-season outdoor game for the Hurricanes, who will become the 28th NHL team to participate in a regular-season outdoor game.

The league also announced that the NHL Global Series will return next season with preseason and regular-season games in four countries in Europe. Preseason games will be in Switzerland and Germany with regular-season games in Finland and the Czech Republic. The teams, dates and cities will be announced at a later date.

“Internationally for us is a no brainer,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. “We had established momentum in terms of having a greater and more regular presence of games in Europe. With the pandemic waning and hopefully a return to normalcy, it only makes sense to restart those efforts and to further them.”

The NHL has not played a game outside of North America since the 2019–2020 season. It has played 32 preseason games and 28 regular season games in European markets all time.
