Days after Utah 2034 announced the departure of Catherine Raney-Norman, the four-time Olympic speedskater has been named chief development officer of the USA Hockey Foundation. She will officially join the organization on July 20.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Catherine to the USA Hockey Foundation,” said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey and The USA Hockey Foundation. “Her passion, leadership skills and track record in philanthropy make her uniquely qualified to help advance our foundation and positively impact hockey in communities across our country.”
At Utah 2034, Raney-Norman had been a key member of the bid team and eventual formation of a host committee. She served most recently as vice president of development and athlete relations and spearheaded Podium34, a new philanthropic model for Olympic and Paralympic organizing committees. In that role, she directed a $300 million strategy encompassing fundraising, donor engagement and legacy investment, and secured over $250 million in philanthropic commitments during the initiative’s first phase.
Prior to that, she was appointed by Utah Governor Spencer Cox to chair the Salt Lake City–Utah Committee for the Games, where she led the state’s successful bid for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and helped raise $4 million to support the effort.
In addition, she spent six years working with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Foundation, where she directed the foundation’s operations including special events, direct marketing, and donor hospitality.
“I’m deeply honored to join The USA Hockey Foundation,” said Raney-Norman. “I’ve spent my career believing in the power of sport to change lives. At a time when hockey continues to grow across the United States, and following USA Hockey’s historic achievements in Milan, the opportunity to help build on that momentum is incredibly exciting. USA Hockey’s athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters represent the very best of what sport can achieve and inspire future generations. I can’t wait to get to work and start building opportunities together.”
Raney-Norman competed in long track speedskating for Team USA at four Olympic Winter Games — 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010. She is still the American record holder in the women’s 5,000 and 10,000-meter disciplines.
USA Hockey swept gold medals in men’s hockey, women’s hockey and sled hockey at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
