A new NCAA record was broken in Louisville, Kentucky, capping a year of extraordinary gains in women’s sports: 21,726 attended the semi-finals of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship at @kfcyumcenter. All four No. 1 seeds were at play with the hometown Louisville Cardinals advancing to the final against Penn State, which shocked Nebraska with a 5-set come-from-behind win.

The Athens Marathon goes by “The Authentic” for obvious reasons. Running where the marathon began and finishing in the stadium of the original modern Olympics, participants get a true once-in-a-lifetime experience. But the race is serious business and includes a 10K, a 5K and a 1,200-meter kids race. According to a study by Deloitte, it also brings in 45,000 visitors, half of which have never visited Greece before, fills hotels to 95 percent capacity, creates 18,240 jobs and generates an estimated 7 million Euros to the local economy.
