Perfect Game is getting bigger by going Down Under.

The world’s largest youth baseball and softball platform has named Oz Ball Tournaments Pty an official Perfect Game Area Director in Australia, thereby establishing Perfect Game-licensed tournaments and showcases across Australia that will operate under the Perfect Game brand.

“This partnership represents another major step in our international growth strategy,” said Perfect Game Chairman Rick Thurman. “Australia has long produced high-level baseball talent, and by establishing an official Area Director model there, we are creating a clear and credible pathway for athletes to connect with the global baseball community through Perfect Game.”

As part of the deal, Perfect Game will supply marketing support, including official branding and trademarks. Players in Australia will now be able to fully participate in the Perfect Game system that includes analytics tracking, recruiting exposure and more.

In January, Perfect Game announced an expansion into Asia through a partnership with Japan. The company also said it will hold its second Pacific Baseball Championship at the Ontario Sports Complex in Ontario, California, this December. That eight-nation event includes teams from the U.S., Asia and Australia.

Taylor McCollough, PG’s vice president of business operations, talked with SportsTravel about the arrangement and what it means for Perfect Game.

Why was this the right time to make this deal?

Australia has consistently produced high-level baseball talent, and the interest in the sport continues to grow across the country. Over the past few years, in partnership with Oz Ball, we’ve seen a lot more engagement from players, coaches and organizations looking to connect with the Perfect Game platform. In 2024, PG sent [former MLB pitchers] Tom “Flash” Gordon and Scott Erickson down there with a U.S.-based team for a tour and we welcomed several Australian teams to our events in the U.S. The timing felt right to bring our event structure and competitive model to Australia and help create more opportunities for players to compete, develop and gain exposure on a global stage.

What are you most hoping to get out of this arrangement?
Growing the game internationally is one of the major goals at Perfect Game. We’ve built our reputation by providing elite competition and events that connect athletes with similar caliber teams across the country and in Latin America. Bringing that model to Australia allows us to support the growth of the game while giving players and teams access to the same high-level experiences that have made Perfect Game events so impactful in the United States.
How many tournaments do you expect to have there this year and when might they start?
We expect to begin with a limited number of events in year one as we establish the foundation and work closely with local partners including Oz Ball and Baseball Australia. From there, the goal is to grow the schedule each year as participation increases and the infrastructure continues to develop.
What does this move say about the growth of Perfect Game?
This expansion reflects the continued evolution of Perfect Game as a global platform for amateur baseball. The game is growing internationally and our goal is to create more opportunities for players to compete at a high level regardless of where they’re located. Bringing Perfect Game events to Australia, as we are doing in Japan, is another step in connecting talented players around the world to the broader baseball community.
