PTO and World Triathlon Unveil Triathlon World Tour Brand
The new World Tour is designed to create a clear and unified competition structure for triathlon
Posted On: July 29, 2026 By :The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and official governing body World Triathlon have unveiled their new Triathlon World Tour brand, as well as the provisional 2027 T50 and T100 World Championship Tour calendars.
Both entities wanted to create a clear and unified competition structure for triathlon that would combine the existing T100 Triathlon World Tour, which is organized by the PTO, and the World Triathlon Championship Series, which is put on by World Triathlon (WTCS). Those events have now been rebranded as the T100 World Championship Tour and T50 World Championship Tour, respectively.
The concept for a Triathlon World Tour was first announced by the PTO and World Triathlon in December last year. It is designed to disrupt a fragmented ecosystem that is seen to be impeding the sport’s growth, one of the main takeaways from a Deloitte report commissioned by World Triathlon to assess the sport and reimagine its future.
World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany was keen to emphasize the importance of making changes now, as the LA28 Olympic qualification cycle enters its most important phase.
“Our sport was really fragmented from a competition and commercial perspective, which was holding it back,” he said. “We could have waited until the end of the current Olympic qualification before making the changes, but the changes we’re making were too important to wait. By introducing the Triathlon World Tour now we are creating one unified structure and brand which can unify as many events as possible, creating a win-win situation for all of us in the sport.”
“This agreement matters because it’s about growing our sport for the long term. Athletes and national federations deserve more, and better, racing opportunities, and that’s exactly what the Triathlon World Tour is designed to deliver.”
Triathlon World Tour Framework
The T50 and T100 World Championship Tours will be the highest tier of professional racing on the new Triathlon World Tour, culminating in World Championship Finals for both distances.
Within the new framework, there will also be a tier of events branded ‘Challenger’ that provide a unified qualification pathway and feed into the World Championship Tours. The tier will incorporate the former World Triathlon Cups and various Challenge Family events that were acquired by the PTO in February this year.
All events on the Tour will incorporate a professional field and mass participation amateur races.
While the initial World Championship tier calendars and brand details have been confirmed, the remaining Championship and Challenger events, including qualification details and prize money, will be announced at the World Triathlon Congress in Pontevedra, Italy, on September 23. It has already been revealed that the prize money for the T50 World Championship Tour has been increased.

- September 8—12: Hamburg Triathlon World Championship Finals (Germany)
- September 25—26: Weihai Triathlon (China)
- November 20—21: Tauranga Triathlon (New Zealand)
T100 Race to Qatar World Championship Tour events in 2027:

- April 10—11: Singapore Triathlon (Singapore)

PTO CEO Sam Renouf highlighted how the Tour would focus on securing “long-term hosting partnerships with iconic locations,” including Yokohama, Hamburg, Singapore, Qatar and San Francisco. Meanwhile, he confirmed that London, Los Angeles and Rome would be added to the T50 Tour in 2027.
“This announcement is a significant step forward towards the PTO’s mission of transforming triathlon and taking it mainstream,” said Renouf. “In order to do that, we need to get more people participating in the sport at every level, which is why creating one unified brand and competition structure is so important — to make it as simple and engaging as possible for everybody to understand and get involved.
“This is about recalibrating the sport and creating a pathway for every professional and amateur athlete to experience and enjoy, as well as creating an attractive commercial platform to bring more sponsors and host cities into our great sport.”
