Salt Lake City to Host 2027 NHL Winter Classic
The outdoor game will feature the Utah Mammoth and the Colorado Avalanche

The league has announced that the 2027 Discover NHL Winter Classic will be played at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, and will feature the Utah Mammoth hosting the Colorado Avalanche at the on-campus football venue at the University of Utah. A specific day for the event and start time will be announced at a later date.
The event will mark the first regular-season outdoor game for the Utah Mammoth. For the Avalanche, it will mark the team’s fourth regular-season outdoor appearance.
The NHL has hosted the Winter Classic since 2008 on or around New Year’s Day and has expanded its outdoor portfolio to a Stadium Series for other outdoor regular-season events. The game in Utah will mark the 18th Winter Classic and the 47th NHL regular-season outdoor game overall. The Utah Mammoth will become the 32nd NHL franchise to participate in an outdoor game.
Rice-Eccles Stadium has held its share of major sporting events over the years since opening in 1998. It served as host of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and will do so again at the 2034 Olympic Winter Games.
